![]() Garde Rail Gallery presents "The Daniel Belardinelli Experience", featuring the work of New York self-taught artist Daniel Belardinelli. Show opens, First Thursday, February 3, 2000, from 6 until 9pm. Open Saturdays, 12-5pm. Through February 26, 2000. Daniel Belardinelli's drawings and paintings are a chronicle of his day-to-day existence. By drawing and painting the things he may love or hate, Daniel has become obsessed in chronicling all of his experiences on index cards, on wood, on canvas and on paper. His work is often covered in text, many times reflecting the harshness, irony and humour of his urban surroundings. Daniel was born in Manhattan in 1963. Born with attention deficit disorder (ADD) and a learning disability which caused him to be visually impaired, Daniel was an exceptionally poor student due to his inability to focus and remain still. Not diagnosed until his early thirties, Daniel's entire academic career was a struggle. Daniel began painting and drawing in nursery school. Inspired by his grandfather, Muzio Belardinelli, an accomplished jazz guitarist and artist, Daniel was given the green light to draw and paint as much and as often as possible. "Creating art has always had a calming affect upon me," says Daniel. "It was the only thing I could do as a young boy that did not involve rules and restrictions."
Although a poor student, Daniel miraculously completed college in five years with a degree in English from the University of Massachusetts. Additionally, he received his JD from CUNY Law School. Daniel is licensed to practice law in New Jersey. |
